How to protect eBooks?

Digilox User Club powered by PDFLox provides document security and piracy protection for Adobe PDF Format files (eBooks).

Purchase Title/Wraps
To protect your eBook you must purchase either a Title Protection or Wraps.

Example 1: If you wish to sell/distribute UNLIMITED number of copies of your eBook, then you can purchase a Title for US$50. You can also purchase Revision/s for the same Title at US$10 per Revision (requires minimum of 5 revisions to be purchased), which allows you to update/modify/revise your original eBook.

You must be a registered user to access Digilox User Club services. If you are not a registered user, click here to

and avail our FREE Trial Offer to protect a sample PDF document.

Example 2: If you wish to sell/distribute only 10 copies of your eBook, then you can buy 10 Wraps for US$30 (at US$3 per wrap).

Use Title/Wraps
After completing the payment process with CC Avenue, you will be routed back to Digilox site. If you purchased Wraps, then click on "USE WRAP". If you have purchased Title, then click on "USE TITLE".

Enter/Select the path and filename of your eBook, which you wish to protect and select the protection options provided on the form. Be sure of the options you choose, because they cannot be modified after you submit the form.

Download Wrapper
When you submit the form, a Document ID will be generated for your eBook and displayed on the screen, please note the document id for your reference. Now click on "Download" and download the Digilox Security Wrapper, an executable file with the name "wrap_<your pdf file>.exe". This executable is configured to protect the eBook selected in the previous screen.

Please note the Document Id displayed in the download page. You need to specify this id on your web page to connect to the Digilox server when your customers download your protected eBook from your website.

Create Master Protected eBook
After successfully downloading, run the Digilox Security Wrapper program. This will take your eBook (your original PDF file) and convert it into a Master Protected eBook, an executable file with the name "<your pdf file>.exe"

With the Master Protected eBook, you can now "MakeClones" of for distribution; each Clone is a protected copy of your eBook. The "Copy Info" button will show you how many clones you are allowed to make and how many clones you have already made. The "Revise PDF" button allows you to update/modify/revise your original eBook (PDF document) and make a revised Master Protected eBook.

Make Clones
To distribute your protected eBook by CD or Email click on MakeClones button and select CD or Email as Mode of Distribution and click Generate. This will make a protected copy of your eBook from the Master Protected eBook, the generated file is an executable file with the name "<your pdf file><number>.exe. The <number> corresponds to the number of CD clones/copies made so far from the Master Protected eBook. This file can now be distributed to your customers via CD or Email.

To distribute your protected eBook by Web click on MakeClones button and select Web as Mode of Distribution and click Generate. This will make a protected copy of your eBook from the Master Protected eBook, the generated file is an executable file with the name "<your pdf file>.exe. This file is your Web Clone that can now be distributed as a downloadable protected eBook to your customers.

Web Downloadable eBook
Upload the Web Clone and place in a folder in your web server. When your customer (eBook User) purchases your protected eBook, after completing the shopping formalities (eg: shopping cart, credit card transaction, etc), your site should call a web script at Digilox site: http://www.digilox.com/webdist/publisherloginregisterprev.asp, with the following parameters.

<input type=hidden name=demail value="variable storing user's email">
<input type=hidden name=dfirstname value="variable storing user's first name">
<input type=hidden name=dlastname value="variable storing user's Last name">
<input type=hidden name=ddocid value="Digilox Document ID of protected e-book">
<input type=hidden name=dreturnurl value="Return URL - (The page where the user should returned to, from the Digilox Server)">
</form>
Note: You can design this page as you like but the form and the fields should not be altered

User Registration
During the purchase process, the eBook User will be taken to the Digilox page after completing the necessary shopping formalities from your website. In the Digilox page, the user needs to create a username and password for his/her copy of the protected e-book. (This username and password is needed to open the downloaded protected eBook on any new computer). After creating the username and the password, the user will be automatically taken back to the "return URL" specified in step above. The User can now download the protected e-book from your (publisher) site, and double click the file to open.

User Authentication
The first time the User opens the downloaded protected eBook on his/her PC, a dialog box appears prompting the user to enter the username and the password (created in User Registration). The User should be connected to the Internet for authentication. If the username and password are correct, the document will open.

Relocate eBook
The Relocate button in the protected exe (clone/wrap) will be visible to your customers only if you set RELOCATE option to TRUE while protecting the document initially. The RELOCATE option enables your customers to move the protected document from one PC to another.

When a User relocates his/her protected eBook, User authentication is required when opening the e-book for the first time after relocation. User name and password are not needed to open the protected eBook from the second time onwards.

Administration Panel
Digilox User Club Administration Panel has different columns such as the document name, the protected date, the active copies, number of installed copies, etc. Under the column "Distribution Mode", click on the link "Web".

This opens a page listing the users who are registered to use that particular eBook. Here you can authorize your users to continue using the eBook. Until you authorize a particular user, the status remains temporary for the user. "Temporary" means that you retain control to revoke permissions even after distribution.
NOTE: The user can open the eBook as soon as he/she downloads it after purchasing the eBook. After the temporary period the copy of the e-book will expire and will not open.

If you wish to delete certain users, you can identify those users by their names and have delete them from the list on the Digilox Server. If you delete a user, the particular copy of the eBook will not be counted in your account. The deleted users will not be able to open their copy of the eBook after the temporary period has expired.
